Introduction
Hello everyone! In today’s blog, I’ll be discussing the pros and cons, which is an IT freelance service in Japan. It’s the largest service of its kind, not only for freelancing but also for finding IT jobs in Japan. In this post, I’ll focus specifically on the freelance side of things.
For those who don’t know me, I’ve been working in IT freelancing since 2019, and I’ve been in the IT industry in Japan since 2016. Over the past five years, I’ve worked with various Japanese companies, primarily on web development, focusing on front-end but occasionally on the back-end as well.
Example of High Paying Projects
The service offers a variety of freelance projects, especially in web development. Some of these projects can pay quite well, with the highest ones reaching up to 1,000,000 yen per month. These high-paying projects are mostly based in Tokyo, and they typically require around five years of experience.
If you’re a front-end engineer, you’ll find plenty of opportunities, particularly with technologies like React, Node.js, TypeScript, and Next.js. The average engineer on this platform earns between 700,000 and 900,000 yen per month, which is a decent income by Japan’s standards.
The Freelance Process
The process of getting started is straightforward. First, you register on their website and fill in your details. If you have the required experience, agents will actively try to match you with a project. They’ll contact you, discuss your preferences, and recommend suitable projects. Once you apply for a project, you’ll usually have a meeting with the client. If everything goes well, you’ll start working on the project shortly after.
The Team is particularly good at supporting you through this process, ensuring that any issues are quickly addressed by their agents.
Pros
- Quick Project Placement: Typically, only one interview is required to secure a project.
- No Leetcode Tests: Unlike many Western companies, doesn’t require extensive technical interviews.
- Great Support: The team is helpful, providing assistance with skill sheets, invoices, and time sheets.
- Visa Support: While the company doesn’t directly handle visa issues, they can assist through associated immigration lawyers.
- Many Projects: There’s a wide variety of projects available, allowing you to choose the one that best fits your skills and preferences.
- High Pay: The pay is competitive, especially compared to working directly for a company in Japan.
- Skill Development: Working with large companies helps you level up your skills quickly.
Cons
- No English-Speaking Projects: Most projects require a high level of Japanese proficiency.
- Middleman Economics: As a middleman service, they takes a cut of the payment, which might be a downside for some freelancers.
Conclusion
By the end of this blog, I hope you can decide whether this service is the right freelance service for you. Although it’s not for everyone, especially those without the required experience or Japanese language skills, it’s an excellent option for experienced IT professionals in Japan.
If it isn’t the right fit for you, keep an eye out for the service I’m working on in my spare time. And remember, I’m not sponsored by this company, but I do highly recommend it for those with the right qualifications.
